| The
City of Springfield continues their celebration of 125 years
of incorporation with an exciting display of wedding dresses
at the Springfield Museum. The exhibit, entitled "A
June Bride," will run from June 1 to June 26.
On display at the museum
for the first time, the dresses are the collection of bridal
historian Carol Houde, and date from the 1880s to 1993.
Most of the 21 dresses on display are from brides connected
with the Springfield/Eugene area specifically, and Oregon
generally.
The brides have given their
beautiful dresses and shared their photographs and stories
with Carol Houde, who is honored to be the guardian of both
the dresses and the brides' precious memories. Houde's collection
started with her grandmother's wedding dress of 1903. She
now has four generation of her family's wedding dresses.
Houde gives wedding dress
shows with historical background as fundraisers for churches,
women's clubs and the OSU Extension Service.
Houde's book "The Pleasure
of Your Company," which she co-wrote with Faye Brabham,
will be on sale at the reception Friday, June 4. Proceeds
will go to the Springfield Museum.
The Museum is located at
590 Main Street, in Springfield, and is open from 10:00
am to 4:00 pm Tuesday - Friday, and from 12:00 noon to 4:00
pm Saturdays. Contact 541-726-2300 for more information. |
