Volunteers
The volunteer program is an important part of operating the Springfield Museum. The three areas where volunteers contribute to our program are:
-
The Museum Committee
-
The Board of Directors
-
The Docent Program
|
 |
Volunteers contribute over 4,000 hours each year to the Museum. These positions are vital to the Museum and we are very thankful for the contribution of our volunteers.
THE MUSEUM COMMITTEE
The Springfield Museum Board appoints a Museum Committee member. The three-year positions cover a large range of responsibility. Hospitality/Events, Registrar, Newsletter, Exhibits, Garden Tour and Program are the areas of work for the committee members. Debbie Gruell is the staff contact for this committee and is available at 726-3677 or dgruell@ci.springfield.or.us
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors is responsible for policy making and fund raising. These community people devote much time and energy into ensuring the future of the Museum. The position of director is filled by invitation.
THE DOCENT PROGRAM
The volunteer role in the Docent Program is to be a guide for the Museum. Our docents staff the museum during the hours that the museum is open to the public. Without these key volunteers the access to the Museum would be very limited. As a docent, a volunteer receives the following benefits:
- Access to local artists and collectors
- Sharing fellowship and special events with other docents
- Free admission to the Museum
- A 10% discount at the Museum store
"Volunteering at the Springfield Museum offers me the opportunity to meet and interact with the interesting artists, historians, visitors and other local people who are volunteers. It is a rewarding experience to help our community"
—Lois Hopper
"The Museum is a fun place to volunteer. I enjoy meeting the people that visit and sharing the information of the exhibits with them."
—Nellie Olaen
The docents work three-hour shifts as often as they elect. The scheduling is very flexible. If you are interested in joining this special program or if you have any questions please contact Debbie Gruell at 541-726-3677 or dgruell@ci.springfield.or.us
